Epitalon is a four-amino-acid peptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) that upregulates expression of telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), the catalytic enzyme that rebuilds telomeric DNA at chromosome ends and offsets the telomere shortening tied to cellular senescence. It interacts with chromatin and acts as a transcription modulator on genes governing cell renewal. In parallel it restores pineal gland melatonin secretion, helps normalise the hypothalamic-pituitary axis, and lowers lipid peroxidation, giving it an antioxidant profile. Animal studies report reduced age-related pathology and extended median and maximum lifespan.
